Where are our City Cemeteries located?
The City of Social Circle maintains two cemeteries, Lakewood Cemetery and Bennie Hill Cemetery.
Lakewood Cemetery is on the corner of Lakewood Drive and Memorial Drive.
Bennie Hill Cemetery is at AP Henderson and Inglis Drive.
Who oversees the Cemeteries?
The City Cemeteries are overseen by the Public Works Department. Contact Public Works Director Robbie Groves if you have questions or concerns.
Who can help locate a grave?
Jennifer Pacilli is the cemetery coordinator and can assist families with grave location. The City is responsible for maintaining the cemeteries. However, families are advised to keep careful records that prove ownership of a gravesite.
How do I buy a grave?
Individuals or families wanting to buy a gravesite should email Jennifer Pacilli or call her at 770-464-6906 to request pricing and availability. This is because cemetery lots are not on a software program that would allow families to view availability of gravesites.
When the time comes to bury a loved one, family members must show the burial plot deed or proof of ownership. The next step is for the family to obtain a burial permit before a gravesite is dug or interment made into the burial site. Ms. Pacilli can provide family members a copy of the Cemetery Code of Ordinances and requirements for setting a tombstone.
Do I need a burial permit?
Yes. Once you have shown grave ownership, you are then required to obtain a burial permit from the City and meet with cemetery coordinator Jennifer Pacilli to locate the grave where you wish your family member to be buried. Please give more than 24 hours advanced notice to review ownership and locate the grave.
You may refer to the City Code of Ordinances section 6-4 Municipal Cemetery for more information.
