The City of Social Circle encourages citizen participation and suggests residents who would like to serve their community consider applying for a seat on the City's numerous Boards and Commissions. The Mayor and City Council approve appointments to Boards and Commissions.

Cemetery Committee

The Cemetery Committee oversees the maintenance and preservation of the City cemeteries. They meet as needed at the Fellowship Hall at the Social Circle United Methodist Church.

Downtown Development Authority

The Downtown Development Authority is created for the purpose of revitalizing and redeveloping the central business district. The Authority meets every second Thursday of even number months at 1:00 p.m. in the City Community Room, 138 E. Hightower Trail (behind the Police Department).

Georgia Initiative for Community Housing (GICH) Stakeholders

The City of Social Circle was accepted into the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing in 2019. This is a state program, provided by a partnership of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, the University of Georgia, and the Georgia Municipal Association to assist communities in developing a strategic plan to address housing issues. The GICH Stakeholders group plans to meet quarterly in 2023, with dates and location to be announced. 

Historic Preservation Commission

The City established the Historic Preservation Commission to provide a uniform procedure for use in providing for the protection, enhancement, perpetuation and use of places, district, sites, buildings, structures, objects, and landscape features having a special historical, cultural or aesthetic interest or value. The HPC meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6:00 p.m. in the City Community Room, 138 E. Hightower Trail. The HPC is an appointed body, and as such its members do not speak to applicants about their proposed projects outside of public hearings or meetings. All communication must go through the Community Development Department

 Library Board for W.H. Stanton Memorial Library

The W.H. Stanton Memorial Library comes under the Azalea Regional Library System. The Library Board meets as needed at W. H. Stanton Memorial Library, located at 407 West Hightower Trail.

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission is established to facilitate a coordinated and harmonious development of the City. The Planning Commission meets every fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the City Community Room, 138 E. Hightower Trail. The PC is an appointed body, and as such its members do not speak to applicants about their proposed projects outside of public hearings or meetings. All communication must go through the Community Development Department

Social Circle Development Authority

The Social Circle Development Authority is created for the purpose of promoting and assisting economic and industrial development in the City. The Authority meets every second Thursday of the month in January, April, July and October at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room at City Hall, 166 N. Cherokee Road.

Social Circle Housing Authority

The purpose of the Housing Authority is to provide and manage low-income housing for residents of the City of Social Circle in accordance with regulations prescribed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Social Circle Main Street Commission

The Main Street Commission is focused on the preservation, promotion and growth of Social Circle’s Downtown Business District. The Commission meets the second Tuesday of each month at 8:00 a.m. in the City Community Room, 138 E. Hightower Trail.

Tree Board

The Tree Board was created to protect and preserve the trees within the City public spaces and to oversee the protection, preservation, and planting of trees in new construction as set forth in the Code of Ordinances. They now have a new role focused on educational outreach and Arbor Day observances. The Board meets every fourth Thursday of every other month at 6:00 p.m. in the City Community Room, 138 E. Hightower Trail.
