On Tuesday night, February 4 at 6 pm, the Walton County Board of Commissioners (WCBOC) will consider a design contract for the Recreation Center in Social Circle. The Social Circle GICH committee will be making a presentation showing support and appreciation for the Recreation Center project. We would love for a number of residents to attend to show their appreciation for the progress the WCBOC have made in bringing the much-desired recreation center to our town. There will be a shuttle bus leaving the Social Circle Community Room at 138 E Hightower Trail at 5:15 pm Tuesday evening to take anyone who is interested to the meeting.
The proposed location of the recreation center is across the street from the South Walton Park baseball fields. There is currently a house on the property that will need to be removed before the construction can begin. The County will amend the current budget to fund the asbestos removal and demolition of the house, and to cover the full design contract. The design contract is with Carter Watkins and is a two-year term, from concept design through construction administration.
The recreation center is being built by Walton County and funds for this project are coming from County SPLOST funds.
