NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT PROJECT (CDBG)

 The City is considering applying to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for a Community Development Block Grant of up to $1,000,000.00. These funds must be used to primarily benefit low- and moderate-income persons.

The activities for which these funds may be used are in the areas of housing, public facilities, and economic development. More specific details regarding the eligible activities, plan to assist displaced persons (if any), the estimated amount of funds proposed to be used for activities to benefit low- and moderate-income persons, and the rating system will be provided at a public hearing which will be held on April 21, 2022, at 6:00 PM in the Public Meeting Room located at 138 E Hightower Trail, Social Circle, GA, 30025.

The purpose of the hearing will be to obtain citizen input into the development of the application and to review progress on previous CDBG grants (if applicable). Please use the QR code at the bottom of this notice to take the Community Needs Assessment survey!

This project is covered under the requirements of Section 3 of the HUD Act of 1968, as amended and Section 3 Residents and Business Concerns are encouraged to apply. A list of job training locations available to low- and moderate-income residents will be provided.

The City of Social Circle also abides by the following laws as they pertain to HUD-Assisted Projects: Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; Section 109 of the HCD Act of 1974, Title 1; Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (Fair Housing Act); Section 104(b)(2) of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended; Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA); and the Architectural Barriers Act of 1968.

Occupation Tax and Business License Regulations

The city has upgraded to a new system for business licenses. Business license renewal notices were mailed in
December. If you are an existing business and did not receive your renewal notice, please call City Hall at 770-464-2380 and ask for Dennise Adams or Barbara Schlageter. We will be glad to provide you with the forms. The administrative fee of $100.00 shall be required for all businesses. The employee fee is $10.00 per employee. The business license is due and payable by January 31st of each year and shall, if not paid by May 1 of each year, be subject to penalties and interest. If you are starting a new business, we welcome you. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call. We will be glad to help get you started.

Now is a great time to remind everyone of the leaf, limb, and brush pickup schedule, weather permitting. Remember, wet leaves do not vacuum well.
~ Monday: North of East Hightower Road and East of North Cherokee Road.
~ Tuesday: West of North Cherokee Road and North of West Hightower Trail and Alcova Drive.
~ Wednesday: South of Alcova Drive and West Hightower Trail and West of South Cherokee Road.
~Thursday: East of South Cherokee Road and South of East Hightower Trail.
~Friday: Make-up Day.
If you pile leaves or brush after your designated day of pick up listed above, city crews will pick them up on your designated day the following week, not on Friday make-up days.

Congratulations to our Social Circle Boys’ Varsity Basketball Team

At the Regular meeting of the Social Circle Mayor and Council on March 16, 2022 the Social Circle Boys’ Varsity Basketball Team was recognized with a resolution for their dedication and achievements over the course of their outstanding season. The Social Circle Boys’ Varsity Team recorded an outstanding 30 total wins in their season and reached the Final Four of State Championship Tournament for the first time since 1974. Congratulations to the team and coaches involved! Thank you for all you do!
