Will Brinkley has over 30 years of law enforcement experience, beginning with the City of Madison Georgia Police Department in 1989, and most recently as a Captain in the Athens Clarke County Police Department, where he served for 25 years rising from Police Officer through the ranks to Captain.

Will Brinkley is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute and holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. The Southern Police Institute is a division of the Department of Criminal Justice, College of Arts and Sciences, University of Louisville. It is an advanced education and training institute whose mission is to enhance the professional development of law enforcement practitioners by providing educational and career development programs that are designed to challenge and to prepare law enforcement practitioners for the demands of today and tomorrow. The Southern Police Institute consistently is ranked among the top law enforcement educational and training schools in the nation.

A strong proponent and practitioner of community oriented policing, Will Brinkley, throughout his career, has invested in relationships with his coworkers, his staff, and all segments of his community. His breadth of experience ranges from Patrol to Special Operations, School Resource, and community-oriented policing. He has been recognized for Meritorious Community Service and Leadership Ability, improving communication between Public Housing and the Police Department, Community Policing and facilitating projects which decreased criminal activity and enhanced quality of life.

Will Brinkley is a member of the Southern Police Institute Alumni Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives.

Described by his professional references as a genuine, transparent, person of integrity who respects people and achieves success by building long term positive relationships, he has led officers and shift supervisors through their many stages of training being attentive to their questions while putting the needs of the citizens as a top priority.
