Citizen Firearm Class Scheduled

The Social Circle Police Department has announced the date for their next Citizen Firearm Class.

Date: Saturday, May 20, 2017
Time: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Location: Community Room

This class is designed for those individuals that want to become familiar with how to properly use a firearm. This course will include classroom and range instruction. This course will also provide the legal and lawful explanation of the use of force.

The class size is limited to the first 15 applicants. All applications must be submitted no later than Tuesday, May 16,2017.

 

Golf Cart Ordinance Amended

On January 17, 2017, the Social Circle City Council adopted the amended golf cart ordinance. This ordinance allows motorized carts, aka golf carts, to be operated on city streets with speed limits not to exceed 35 mph.

If you own a golf cart and wish to operate it on public roadways, the golf cart must be registered with the city and must meet all safety requirements defined in the ordinance. Registration packets can be picked up at the police department Monday- Friday between 8:30 am-5:00 pm or downloaded from our web site. Coffee With a Cop

The Social Circle Police Department will be hosting a Coffee with a Cop each month to give citizens a chance to meet the officers of the Social Circle Police Department. There will be no formal agenda for the meetings, so drop in when you can to discuss concerns, ask questions and get to know your police officers.

The Coffee with a Cop for February will be held at Ford’s Restaurant from 7:00 am – 9:00 am Wednesday, February 1.

The Coffee with a Cop for March will be held March 8 at Butcher Block. Check back for times.

The Social Circle Police Department would like to remind you that calls for service are not dispatched through the Police Department’s main line. Walton County 911 is our dispatch provider. If you need an officer to respond to any emergency situation call 911 immediately.

For non-emergencies call Walton County Dispatch at 770-464-0310.

You are encouraged to call the police department’s main line (770-464-2366) during normal business hours for questions or concerns relating to police matters, obtaining copies of reports, and all other administrative matters etc.

Social Circle Ranked as 25th on list of 50 Safest Cities in Georgia

Social Circle was ranked by Safewise, a pioneer in unbiased home security reviews, as the 25th safest city in Georgia. Their 2017 report of The 50 Safest Cities in Georgia, released this week, uses FBI crime report statistics from 2015 and population data to calculate the number of violent crimes and property crimes per 1,000 residents. The ranking makes Social Circle the safest city in Walton County as the only other city in Walton County that appears on the list is Loganville, with a ranking of 32.

In 2016 Social Circle was ranked as the 36th safest city in Georgia.
