City Holiday Schedule

City Hall will be closed Monday, December 25, Tuesday, December 26 and Monday, January 1. There will be no bus service on those days.

Trash pick up will be delayed by a day the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s Day. Tuesday pickups will take place on Wednesday and Thursday pickups will take place on Friday both weeks.

Once you have finished enjoying your Christmas tree, recycle it! Bring it to the parking lot behind the
Police Station between Dec 26 and Jan 6 and we will work with Keep Walton Beautiful to turn
the tree into mulch.

We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season and we look forward to serving you in 2018!

Police Department Offers Tips for Safe Holidays

The holidays are a popular time for thieves to target homes around town. To keep your holidays safe, please follow these tips:

  • Do not leave boxes on your porch. Consider having the packages delivered to your workplace or set the delivery options to require a signature.
  • Do not put intact boxes out for trash pickup or recycling. Break down boxes and put in your trashcan or recycling. This keeps thieves from identifying new big-ticket items that you’ve purchased and target your home for later.
  • If you will be out of town for the holidays, request an extra patrol with the police department. Download request form.
  • Do not leave valuables in your car and keep your car and home locked.

Police Department Offers Extra Patrols

If you have plans to travel during the holidays, you can request that the Police Department keep an eye on your residence while you are away. Complete the Extra Patrol Request Form and email it to toliver@socialcirclega.com or bring the completed form by the Police Department. The police officers will include your residence in their rounds during the day and evening shifts. For questions, please email  toliver@socialcirclega.com or call the Police Department at (770) 464-2366.

Sewer Line Upgrades to begin November 13

The City of Social Circle executed a contract on 10/31/17 with Site Engineering of Atlanta to replace the existing sewer lines in 3 locations: South Forest Avenue, Tower Road, and Spring Street. Specific areas involved are:

  • Residences between 246 and 302 South Forest Avenue – project work will be located on the right of way in the front yards of the homes.
  • Residences between 856 and 896 Tower Road – project work will be located in the back yards of the residences beside the railroad right of way.
  • 353 Spring Street residence – project work will be located behind the residence at 353 Spring Street.

The scope of the project is to replace the line, install new manholes, and reconnect any laterals from homes in the areas. The total amount of line to be installed is 1,543 feet of 8” PVC pipe with 4 new manholes installed and 8 reconnections.

The preliminary schedule is to begin the project on November 13, 2017 and complete within 90 days (February 1, 2018). The purpose of these sewer projects is a first step of reduction of inflow / infiltration throughout the city’s collection lines and thus making the collection system a more efficient utility for the city’s current and future needs.

Donations being accepted for the Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade

Mayors Christmas MotorcadeThe City of Social Circle will be doing its part to make the holiday season special for residents of Georgia’s hospitals serving persons with developmental disabilities and behavioral health needs by participating in Mayor’s Christmas Motorcade program. The program, started by Georgia Municipal Association in 1959, relies on citizen participation to donate gifts for the patients, many of whom would not receive gifts or be recognized without this program. Donations will be accepted at City Hall and the Welcome Center.
