Please continue to check on your neighbors.

Georgia Power has crew here from West Virginia. They have made great progress. We have power all up and down North Cherokee.  They are working on West Hightower and should be able to get to Oak Street and Wildwood in the next day or so.

City crews are moving debris as quickly as the power crews ground and clear the lines.

Beware of spoiled food. Trash trucks will be running, but are a day behind their normal schedule.  If your food has been at room temperature, please throw it out. Contact your insurance company as the loss of the food may be covered under your homeowner’s policy.

The temperatures will be in the mid 80’s tomorrow. Please check on your neighbors and make sure they are doing OK.  We will have shelters open at Social Circle United Methodist Church and Corinth Missionary Baptist Church. Overnight shelter is available at Corinth Church. The Salvation Army is serving lunch and dinner at the Methodist Church. Lunch is at noon. Dinner is at 5:00. Meals are being carried to Corinth from the Methodist Church. Transit will operate until 8:00 pm for transport to the shelters.

We appreciate everyone picking up the debris and piling it at the edge of the street as requested. The City looks great. It may sit there a while until our crews are able to get around and pick it up. Please only take woody debris to the laydown site at Public Works on Vine Street. If there is any metal debris mixed in, it could harm a city worker or mess up the equipment.

Please share this information with your neighbors as some people do not have access to the internet.

We wish to thank Georgia power. This is the largest catastrophe they have had to deal with in the history of the company.

State Representative Bruce Williamson commended the City on their response and communication. He serves 6 cities in Walton County and Social Circle was by far the most damaged.

Some roads will continue to be closed tonight. Be aware of them as you travel around the city. There will not be a curfew tonight, but do remain at home unless you have to be out.

Schools are closed tomorrow. The schools will evaluate the situation tomorrow afternoon and make a decision about Friday.

The City water supply is in good shape. Please continue to conserve water. If you do not have water, there is a hose available behind the Police station that you can use to fill your containers. Please bring your own containers.

We appreciate everyone working together. Please let us know how we can assist.

We will have updates tomorrow morning at 9:30 am and 5:00 pm.

Thank you for your continued patience.
